Price 175 NOK

Get to know Bergen silver's connections to phenomena such as Art Nouveau, Dragon Style, souvenir silver, and world exhibitions! The talk will be conducted in Norwegian.

Around 1900, Bergen experienced a new silver age!

The city’s silversmiths dazzled at international exhibitions, crafting Viking ship enamel pieces sold to European royalty, newly wealthy Americans, and English salmon lords – both in Norway and abroad. Renowned firms such as Marius Hammer and Theodor Olsen enjoyed their golden era, producing magnificent works featuring medieval dragon motifs and organic lines in the "new style."

In this lecture, Morten Spjøtvold, curator of crafts and design at Kode, delves into the artistry of Bergen’s silversmiths around 1900.

The lecture is organized in collaboration with the Bergen Silver Foundation.
