Where Permanenten

In this playful concert performance, children are invited on a magical journey inspired by Harriet Backer and her sister, composer and pianist Agathe Backer Grøndahl. Through theater, music, and storytelling, their stories come to life – an experience that both engages and inspires.

With live music and captivating storytelling, the audience is introduced to two of Norway’s most important artists. Harriet Backer was a groundbreaking painter who mesmerized with her luminous, color-rich paintings, while Agathe Backer Grøndahl was a renowned pianist and composer, known for her evocative soundscapes.

While Agathe Backer Grøndahl (Martha Berit Belt) conjures melodies on the piano, Harriet Backer (Ingvill Holter) lets her paintbrushes dance across the canvas. Together, they share music, stories, and glimpses of life on the road. A captivating experience for the whole family, lasting approximately 30 minutes.

About the artists

Martha Berit Belt has a versatile career as a soloist, chamber musician, and accompanist. She has performed concerts in Norway, Germany, and France and has been a key part of the concert program at Troldhaugen in recent years—both as the "Pianist of the Week" and in Grieg’s villa. Belt is also the pianist of the chamber group Ensemble Eon.

Ingvill Holter is both a performing singer and a pedagogue. She has taken on roles in opera and theater productions but also thrives in various smaller ensembles. With a strong passion for early music, she is frequently engaged as a soloist with renowned baroque ensembles both in Norway and abroad.
