Sunday 30 April at 1 p.m.:
We welcome a young Danish star pianist to Troldsalen, to mark that it is 150 years since Sergej Rakhmaninov was born.
Buy ticketRakhmaninov is one of the last composers of the Romantic period, but still one of the most famous. With melodic compositions combined with Slavic intensity, he is in the piano repertoire of pianists worldwide.
This Sunday, Gustav Piekut performs Rakhmaninov's Sonata No. 2, in addition to works by Debussy and Brahms.
About the artist
Gustav Piekut is a Danish star pianist who is recognized for his technique, grace and strength as a pianist.
In his debut recording, Piekut mastered one of piano literature's great challenges, Beethoven's Diabelli Variations. "The young Dane proves to be worth the risk," wrote the British magazine Pianist, and believed that "Piekut takes the listener on an increasingly fascinating journey through Beethoven's challenging landscape." The recording earned him the Musikanmelderringen's Artist Award.
In 2021, he released his second album, "Towards the Flame". The international music magazine Pizzicato gave the album a Supersonic Award with the words "only a true musical poet, a true sound artist, can play like that" and BBC Music Magazine wrote that "Piekut hits the spot between technical precision and informal brilliance".
