Munch collection on view in London
Why are there several empty walls in the Munch exhibition in KODE 3 right now?
Edvard Munch's paintings are on loan and travel internationally - read about the exciting plans here.
KODE has the world's third largest collection of Edvard Munch.
Munch travels to London and Paris
This year, many of our main works will be on loan to two important partners: 18 works for The Courtauld Gallery in London, from which we borrowed works by Paul Cézanne in 2021, and eight works for the Musée d´Orsay in Paris.
We look forward to showing our fantastic collection to the public at two of the world's most important art museums!
There will still be masterpieces by Munch on display, but the selection will vary throughout the year.
Important preservation project
In 2022, all 42 paintings by Munch in the collection will be preserved, in collaboration with the MUNCH conservation department.
Never before has such a comprehensive technical review of this entire group of works been carried out at once.
Why do we do this?
The purpose of the work is to make all the paintings in as good a condition as possible for exhibition in Bergen and for lending to other institutions nationally and internationally.
The work will consist of structural treatment, stabilization and aesthetic treatment, and improved framing.
The project is a collaboration with MUNCH, which has the leading experts in the world on the preservation of Munch´s works.
The results of the work will not only be that we secure our most valuable works for the future, but also new technical insight into the works as a basis for research on Munch's artistic practice.
