KODE 3 and Edvard Munch

Opening hours: Tuesday–Friday 11.00–16.00. Saturday–Sunday 11.00–17.00.

We have re-opened one of our museums, KODE 3, featuring our collection of Edvard Munch.

We offer you a delightful wander through highlights from the Norwegian ‘golden age’ of painting (1880–1905) and the world´s third largest collection of art by Edvard Munch.

Edvard Munch is represented with masterpieces such as "Jealousy", "Melancholy", "The Woman in Three Stages" and "Evening on Karl Johan".

The beautiful museum building enables you to have a delightful wander through historical interiors from Bergen, and to experience works by artists such as J.C. Dahl, Hans Gude, Christian Krohg, Harriet Backer, Erik Werenskiold and Gerhard Munthe.

This summer we are also proud to present you with an "exhibition inside the exhibition": An intervention by Norwegian contemporary artist Jeannette Christensen.

With Polaroid pictures and new video works, the exhibition invites the viewer to participate in a dialogue about time, identity and history.

Christensen wishes to invite the public to partake in a dialogue with the works in the collection: Whom do we encounter on the walls of a museum, and who is it that is being represented? How do you make a static picture move, and a moving picture static?
