What happens when art moves into the neighborhood?
In the coming years, Kode will bring art and musical experiences into Bergen’s neighborhoods. Here, the art will reflect the rhythm of the community, be created together with local residents, and offer new experiences right where people live their daily lives.

We believe that art is for everyone – and now you can experience it up close.
Kode’s Art Satellite is a long-term initiative led by our education and outreach department, aiming to welcome even more people into our art spaces.
On Wednesday, December 11, at 12:00 PM,
Opening: Kode at Sletten Senterof Kode's project space at Sletten Center in Bergen will take place.
- For the next two years, the Art Satellite will be based at Sletten, and the shopping center is the perfect location. It attracts a diverse audience and offers visibility at the heart of the neighborhood. We’re excited to get started, says Siri Breistein, Head of Education and Outreach at Kode.
-The museum should be accessible to everyone, and we want to make it easier to experience art. Now, we’re expanding the art and music experiences we offer and bringing them into the neighborhoods – what can art mean in the local community? - asks Kode’s director, Petter Snare.
The Art Satellite project is made possible thanks to support from the Kaare Berg Foundation, Sparebankstiftelsen SR-Bank, and Bergen Municipality. We are also grateful for the collaboration with Sletten Center, which has provided the space for this initiative.
From the project space at Sletten Center, local residents can closely follow the process of the Art Satellite and are invited to participate in workshops, activities, and conversations.
We’re kicking off in December with an open art workshop where we’ll create a dynamic art installation together with visitors!

Fortellinger fra kunstsatellitt
The Art Satellite is inspired by various community art programs, a significant international movement that has yet to gain a strong foothold in Bergen.
Community art is about creating art in collaboration with artists and local communities, focusing on building relationships and strengthening the sense of togetherness.
More About the Project
The Art Satellite builds on Kode's longstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Through collaborations with organizations such as Bergen Prison, Bergen Women’s Welfare Association, the Church City Mission, and Support Not Protect, Kode has opened its doors to new audiences and developed innovative programs to engage with a wider community.
From 2024 to 2026, the Art Satellite will be based in Slettebakken, in the Årstad district. The next Art Satellite will move to Solheim, and later to other neighborhoods across Bergen.
