THE NEW DIRECTOR OF KODE

Karin Hindsbo (39), from Denmark is Erlend G. Høyerstens successor as Director of KODE.

Hindsbo has been the Director of SKMU Sørlandets Kunstmuseum in Kristiansand, Norway since January 2012. That is the very same museum and position as the outgoing director Erlend G. Høyersten came from before he started in Bergen.
Høyersten leaves his position in Bergen in order to take over as the director of Denmark’s second largest art museum, Aros i Aarhus, and will be replaced by a former Aarhus citizen.
– It will be extremely exiting to lead one of the largest and most significant institutions in the Nordic countries. Even though I am leaving my colleagues at SKMU with a heavy heart I am sure they will continue to manage and develop the museum in the best possible way, says Karin Hindsbo.

Did not apply for the position
The new director did not apply and was quite surprised when the chairman of the board contacted her to talk about the position.
– Of course I knew about the situation in Bergen, but I did not have any plans of moving. I have been watching the art scene in Bergen and KODE for many years and the development of KODE towards a distinct and dedicated institution. The city of Bergen is very ambitious regarding its art scene and I am really looking forward to become a part of all this. So when I finally was offered the position as director of KODE I simply couldn’t say no, says Hindsbo.

Pleased with the decision
Chairman of the Board at KODE, Per-Kristian Foss, is very pleased with the choice of Hindsbo as the new Director. – I think we have found a Director who has the right combination of skills such as experience of being a leader, art historical education and creative and innovative thoughts. She also has the right motivation for the task which awaits her in Bergen, says Per-Kristian Foss. Hindsbo has a Master in Art history. Before she started at SKMU she was the artistic leader at Århus Kunstbygning and leader of Den frie Udstillingsbygning in Copenhagen. Both places contemporary art and international cooperation has been in focus.

Karin Hindsbo is acceding to the position as director of KODE in the beginning of February 2014.
