KODE 1 is open
KODE 1, KODE’s building for fine craft and design, is now open for the public!
The museum has an outstanding collection of fine craft and design, which counts over 35.000 objects.
KODE 1 has a long and eventful history. The monumental museum, called “Den Permanente Udstillingsbygning” when it opened in 1896, was erected for the National Fair in Bergen two years later. The building was given the nickname ”Permanenten” by the public.
In the last two years, the building has undergone comprehensive rehabilitation. Both the building and the collections are now more accessible to the public.
For the opening in May 2017, we present the permanent exhibitions The Silver Treasure and the Singer Collection, in addition to a new exhibition featuring the art of Queen Sonja of Norway. Later in 2017 we will re-open the China Collection and mount new exhibitions of craft and design.
KODE 1 has innovative open museum magazines, integrated in and throughout the building in the form of glass window cabinets filled with fascinating artefacts. The building features a museum shop that focuses on design and interior architecture, an educational workshop for children, and a combined conference-and-banquet hall. On the first floor you'll find the restaurant, Bien Centro.
